This was the first long-form feature that the Urban Institute ever published. A multifaceted team coordinated in the effort to build the story with original reporting, photos, and video vignettes. I art directed and designed the piece, along with an accompanying printable version, and worked with a developer to bring the story to life.
Although the project did well in terms of traffic, the larger success came as the institute used this piece as an example of the capabilities of the communications staff at Urban. It also was as a proof of concept for web storytelling in general, helping convince staff and funders of the value of communicating research in this way.
